Julia Szymczykowska’s Exhibition at Galeria Szara

The Society of Friends of Bunkier Sztuki had the pleasure of joining a guided tour of theexhibition “Swallow – Close Your Eyes – Immerse Your Head”, led by the artist herself andcurator Agnieszka Gołębiowska. Julia Szymczykowska’s work is rooted in close observation of the everyday: intimate, raw, and deeply personal. She turns her lens inward, capturing objects that surround her, her own body, and fleeting emotions, often in moments we tend to keep hidden from view. Things we usually don’t show: tired, bloodshot eyes; a sink clogged with hair; a crumpled tube of toothpaste. These quiet scenes from daily life, though seemingly mundane, carry a sense of tenderness and introspection. They speak to vulnerability, but also to resilience - a quiet strength that keeps us moving forward, even through fatigue and pain.
